Appearance: Beautiful, deep ruby core with a lighter ruby/purple rim. Aroma: Rich red and black fruit of cherry, ripe strawberry and black currant, framed by subtle vanilla and brown spice with cedar, tobacco and pencil shaving highlights. Palate: Bright red cherry, black currant and a touch of strawberry jam framed by leather, cedar and graphite with background spice of vanilla, cinnamon and just a touch of white pepper. Finish is exceptionally balanced and complex with subtle, lingering fruit that makes you want another sip.
The 2010 growing season had a cool, wet beginning. After three dry years, the heavy rains replenished the limestone soils of our vineyards allowing them to soak up the much needed moisture into the high water-retaining clay subsoils. Spring was late, but stayed calm and consistent, with no frost issues. Bud break came late due to the cold winter and mild spring and a dry May segued into moderately cool early summer months. August finally brought on the heat, but the uncommonly cool early summer caused the latest harvest in JUSTIN history allowing the soft harvest sun to slowly marry ripe varietal characteristics with bright, fresh acidity.
In JUSTIFICATION, the old world meets the new in a blend of cabernet franc and merlot. This wine expresses the spirit of some right bank Bordeaux producers with its expression of tobacco, herbs and an elegant structure, but with a Paso Robles twist of full, bright fruit. A versatile pairing wine to a wide range of foods, JUSTIFICATION is perfect with a romantic dinner in front of a crackling fireplace, or a summer’s evening BBQ.
