About This Wine:
The highest expression of our winemaking abilities. Our iconic Bordeaux blend was always the dream concept of Justin Baldwin, in the model of the great Bordeaux left-bank wines of Pauillac and Margaux. Over 20 years of experience have helped guide us to great vineyards and low yields, and to spare no expense on production equipment and French barrels, to make the finest wine of Paso Robles. Yet every vintage provides new challenges, and new attempts to drive excellence in a cellarable but immediately delicious blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and merlot.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Dark ruby in the glass with a violet rim Aroma: An alluring, rich mix of ripe black currants and berries faceted with vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa highlights. Palate: Full bodied and complex with multiple black fruit elements of lush currants, berry, and cherry layered with spice of licorice and vanilla accented with chocolate, roasted coffee bean, and tobacco. The finish is extremely long and complex, showing firm plush tannins that pull the wine’s many elements together making it hard to resist drinking it now, but implying an auspicious long-term cellaring potential.

Ratings:

95 Points from Meredith May of The Tasting Panel!

Winemaker Notes:

The 2009 growing season began with an early bud break due to the extremely warm spring temperatures at the beginning of March. An early April frost affected parts of Paso Robles, but our vineyards were relatively unaffected due to their hillside locations. Consistently warm summer weather segued into a moderate early fall with some rain, but our resilient vines shrugged off the water and the grapes retained great fruit concentration and flavor. Balanced weather through the rest of the fall allowed us to pick by flavor profiles without any concerns about excessive heat or cooler temperatures and as a result, our red wines from this vintage have shown incredible density and power of varietal expression. The style of the 2009 vintage is flashy and intense.
